Recent Additions : Robert Plant : Lullaby ....... and the ceaseless roar

Robert Plant's concert in Wellington last year was an outstanding showcase of the his career and also his muse.  He dramatically reworked Zep classics exploring their world music, blues  and folk elements without ever letting us forget their original context.  This is exactly what I think a 60+ year old should be doing if they are to continue to produce relevant material while still satisfying  (most) old fans and I for one would prefer that to Led Zeppelin reunion.

It is certainly consistent with Plant's seemingly relentless exploration and amalgamation of the music he finds most interesting - as I wrote about in this blog.

His latest album Lullaby.....and the Ceaseless Roar is such a natural progression from that album it seems amazing that he did not sing any of the songs at the concert.

It is also a pretty natural progression from his last albums especially Mighty ReArranger,  Dreamland and Band of Joy.

The album kicks off with the folkie Little Maggie, a scratchy Celtic jig of sorts which has distortion grow and mix with a little African instruments.  In other words it sets the scene.  Pockets Full of Golden continues the vibe generally.   Rainbow, Turn it up, and Poor Howard all add to the feel.

In the end I am left thinking that I like the whole idea, vibe and feel of the album as a whole rather than any single song.  It will be interesting whether I come back to play it in a year or two.
